Broadway Dance Center Children and Teens is proud to offer 16-week and 32-week programs, as well as drop-in classes.

  • 16-Week Semester Classes- Excited to try a new genre or style of dance? Ready for a more intensive, technique based, training program? Then our 16-Week Classes may be the perfect fit! These classes are dedicated to learning sound dance technique and terminology without the added element of a showcase routine or the long term time commitment. Come next Semester (Fall or Spring), re-enroll in the class you love and/or try out something new!
  • 32-Week Annual Classes- This full year program, September through June, will take your dance training to the next level! Our dedicated faculty will build on technique fundamentals and style progression throughout the year, culminating with a captivating showcase at a prestigious NYC Theater!
  • Drop-in Classes-Start your day off right with our Baby & Me and Adult classes with no long-term commitment.

CURRICULUM

These are 45-minute classes for the child and parent/caregiver.

We’re thrilled to introduce these fun babywearing dance classes with our GroovaRoo Dance certified BDCCT faculty to our new W65 location! These classes are geared toward parents/caregivers of ALL levels and prior dance experience.  The classes emphasize creating a safe and fun dance environment for you and baby.

  • Baby must be at least 8 weeks old and mom must be cleared for exercise post birth.
  • Must utilize an approved ergonomic carrier (soft structure, stretchy, or mei tai)
  • Common Carriers: Ergobaby, Tula Baby, Emei Baby, Lille Baby, Kinderpack, Beco, Boba.
  • Carriers Not Recommended for Class: Baby Bjorn, Infantino
  • Baby must be worn facing in "heart to heart" (exceptions made for toddlers and their experienced back wearing caregivers)

Pouch Baby Barre: Come plie, and sway in our Pouch Baby Barre class!  This class centers on a fun and easy ballet barre foundation that will help improve baby’s sensory-motor development while offering a core engaging, low impact, toning workout for the parent/caregiver.

Pouch Baby Jam: Get in the groove and boogie down in our Pouch Baby Jam class!  This class incorporates fun and easy community dances that will help improve baby’s sensory-motor development while offering a low impact aerobic workout for the parent/caregiver.

Baby & Me Yoga: Combine yoga poses and play in this unique class for baby and parent/caregiver.  Regain strength and flexibility through this energizing class, all while deepening the bond with your baby through movement and guided interaction.

Listen & Wiggle is a 45-minute drop-in class for the child and parent/caregiver as an introduction to music and movement. Class will consist of a series of songs and guided movements to get babies bouncing and grooving. Musical instruments will also be used.

Baby Movers is a 45-minute drop-in class for the child and parent/caregiver incorporating the basics of creative movements, rhythm & musicality, and body awareness.

Creative Movement introduces rhythm and musicality, elementary ballet skills, weight shifting, and imaginative movements referencing animals and nature.

Tumbling is an intro to gymnastics fundamentals and body awareness in a fun and playful environment. 

Hip-Hop focuses on the popular urban style of dance. Class work consists of a cardio and strength building warm-up, stretching and developing a vocabulary of steps and combinations.

Ballet/Tap Combo introduces rhythm and musicality, elementary ballet and tap skills, weight shifting, and imaginative movements referencing animals and nature.

Hip-Hop focuses on the popular urban style of dance. Class work consists of a cardio and strength building warm-up, stretching and developing a vocabulary of steps and combinations.

Tumbling is an intro to gymnastics fundamentals and body awareness in a fun and playful environment.

Tiny Yoga (Adult Participation) introduces basic yoga poses to build body awareness, strength, and flexibility.

Ballet focuses on the foundations of proper body alignment, technique, and vocabulary. In this class dancers develop flexibility, coordination, and confidence. 

Jazz incorporates foundations of proper body alignment, technique, flexibility and classic jazz dance vocabulary with an upbeat rhythm-based style.

Boys' Technique explores the fundamentals of ballet and jazz technique. While boys are, of course, welcome in all our classes, this class focuses on the unique attributes of strength and style that set male dancers apart. 

Musical Theater Dance (^) builds on the fundamentals of jazz technique while adding elements of acting and storytelling in the classic Broadway style. 

Tap combines rhythm and coordination to make music with the feet and body. Students will learn the basics of tap technique and musicality. 

Hip-Hop focuses on the popular urban style of dance. Class work consists of a cardio and strength building warm-up, stretching and developing a vocabulary of steps and combinations. Intermediate level classes are for dancers with 2-3 years of experience.

Breaking is a style of street dance which focus primarily on four types of movement: top rock, down rock, power moves, and freezes. This class combines fundamentals of these skills with hip-hop foundations.

Acro incorporates elements of both jazz and acrobatics instruction focusing on flexibility, tumbling, strength, and technique with an upbeat rhythm-based style

Lyrical (^) is a style that builds upon a foundation of classical ballet technique with an emphasis on finding freedom in the movement.  Dancers focus on understanding the dynamics and initiation of the movement along with a sense of breath, musicality, and connection to a story.

Jumps & Turns (^) builds upon classic ballet and jazz technique with a focus on across the floor progressions to build skill and understanding of leaps, turns, and floorwork.

Acting incorporates improvisational work, movement, and scene work to encourage dancers to connect with the craft and technique of acting in a relaxed and fun environment.

Level & Pre-Requisite Guide: 
AL- All Levels
Beg or I – Beginner Level, no prior experience necessary
Beg/Int or I/II- Advanced Beginner Level, at least 1 to 2 years of prior experience in the style 
Int or II – Intermediate Level, 2 to 3 years of prior experience in the style
Adv or III- 4+ years of dance training in multiple genres 
(+)- Dancer must also be enrolled in Ballet AND Jazz with BDC Children & Teens
(^)- Dancer must also be enrolled in Ballet OR Jazz with BDC Children & Teens

African combines rhythm and music to the rich tradition of African dances.  Students will gain an understanding of the traditional dances all while improving strength and stamina.

World Dance is a high energy class where students explore the rich diversity of traditional world dances through movement and rhythm.
