Dollie Henry, internationally renowned UK jazz choreographer, theatre director and performer is recognized as one of the most formidable exponents of the jazz art form and theatre dance in the UK and beyond. She has shared her passion and philosophy of creative dance in every continent of the world, with a reputation that is widely revered and respected.
Dollie is founder and Artistic Director of BOP (aka Body of People) a Jazz Music & Dance Producton Company based in London. Now in its 14thyear, the company has produced an array of productions and toured extensively worldwide.
As a theatre choreographer & director productions include: Ain't Misbehavin, Blues in the Night, Inner City Jam, Blues Brother, Soul Sister, Tribute To Sammy Davis Jr, Sophisticated Ladies, White Folks, The Wiz. Opera's Cry of Innocenc & Carmen. Ballets 'I Got Rhythm' for the Northern Ballet Theatre (UK), Voyages for Sudzho Ballet Theatre, China.
She has directed, staged and choreographed in all areas of the entertainment industry of Film, TV & theatre with artists such as; The Nicholas Brothers, Elaine Paige, Anthony Newley, Clarke Peters, Frances Ruffelle, Opera Diva-Cynthia Hyman and numerous UK & European Stage and TV stars. Her collaborations with international chroegraphers & directors include; George Faison, Dianne McIntyre, Woody King Jr, John Caird, Simon Callow, Stephen Jefferies, David Nixon, Gillian Gregory & Nigel West.
Her creative works, both as a freelance director & choreographer have been performed at theatres and venues worldwide. She continues to lecture internationally as a guest choreographer & director, delivering jazz dance and musical theatre masterclasses & workshops, alongside directing and choreographing productions for many theatre colleges. Dollie has also been guest jazz choreographer at Broadway Dance Center & Dance Space Inc in NYC.
Dollie has produced and created her own jazz exercise program for the dance world and fitness enthusiast entitled The BOP Jazz DanceXercise Program – Volume One on DVD, available to buy from the; BOP Website, Amazon, Dress Circle (UK) & now Colony Music on Broadway (NYC).
She is an Associate of ISTD and Honorary Member with IDTA. Master judge of the European Dance Union (EDSU) and World Dance Masters Championships held yearly in Croatia. She can still be found teaching her spirited open Jazz classes at London’s top dance studio Pineapple, alongside lecturing at established universities and theatre colleges throughout the UK and internationally through her company BOP.
