Sheryl Murakami has been dancing and performing since the age of 5. She is a Los Angeles native who has trained extensively in classical ballet while also studying tap, jazz and later branching out into hip hop and salsa.
One of the industry’s most respected choreographers, Miss Murakami received a VMA award in 2011 for “Best Choreography” in a music video for Beyonce “Who Run The World”.
Sheryl has choreographed 3 music videos for Beyonce including: "EGO", “Who Run The World (Girls)”, and “Dance For You”. She is also credited as co/directing with Beyonce for ”EGO” music video.
Other choreography credits include: Interscope’s Kat Graham “Put your Graffiti On Me” music video, KPOP Sensation 2NE1 “I love you”, Mercury Music’s UK pop star Pixie Lott’s video “What Are You Waiting For”, Chris Willis, Curb Records Kaci Battaglia “Crazy” music video, JIVE Records artist Livvy Franc “Now I’m that Bitch”, and her “Automatic “music video, EMI recording artist Jolin Tsai.
Additional credits include national commercials for Maybelline, industrials for AXE, Maxim, Puma, Heineken, X Box, Lollapalooza, and guest choreographer for the NJ Nets and NYC Knicks Dancers.
Miss Murakami also directs her NYC based jazz-funk-rock based dance company T(H)RASH. An elite group of female dancers, T(H)RASH is "An uncensored unapologetic celebration of a woman’s strength, humor and sexuality."
Sheryl has created her own unique style of dance. It is culmination of many years of hard work and knowing what really works. Her strong athletic technique fuses jazz-funk, rock, and pop. Sheryl's signature style captures the strength of feminine sexuality. Her expertise in all forms of dance have enabled her to guest teach and choreograph nationally and internationally. Miss Murakami can currently be found teaching at world renowned Broadway Dance Center in New York City and Edge in LA.
Sheryl currently lives in NYC and LA.
