Giulio Scatola originates from Rome, Italy. He studied ballet and modern dance in his home town before getting a scholarship at the prestigious Maurice Bejart École-Atelier in Lausanne. He then received a full scholarship at the David Howard Dance Center and at the Alvin Ailey Studios, both in New York. Giulio danced with Maurice Bejart’s youth Company and was guest performer in various workshops with the Martha Graham Company and Pina Bausch's right hand Malou Airaudo. Giulio was soloist in the TAN National Ballet (Directed by Paolo Londi) and also in the Albano Ballett in West Hartford where he performed the role of the "Prince" in The Nutcracker.
The last ten years have seen Giulio perform musical theatre; he was namely principal dancer/singer in the original European cast of Fosse, under the direction of Anne Reinking; in the original West End production of Notre Dame de Paris (also Dance Captain), under the direction of Gilles Maheu; and with Trevor Nunn in Cats and Starlight Express and Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. He was also a solo dancer and singer in the Hit Musical Dance of the Vampires, directed by Roman Polanski, as well as playing Cesar in the German Original Cast of Saturday Night Fever, Original Italian Cast of Promises, Promises and played the role of Freddy Mercury in the German Musical Tribute We Are The Champions.
Giulio worked as Associate Choreographer and Resident Director of several European productions, to name a few: Best Of Musical Gala Tour (Stage Entertainment), FIFA Presidential Election (Morocco 2004), Peugeot Rimini Art Festival, The Beauty Of Magic (Las Vegas). Recently he has worked as Director and Choreographer for the V.I.B.E. Performing Arts Centre in Las Vegas (with original productions such as Glow and Fossiana The Night Sun) and Rag Tag Entertainment (Jekyll & Hyde, The Who’s Tommy, Take Off With Us a Bob Fosse Tribute).
Giulio recently finished working as Creative Director and Choreographer on a new multidisciplinary show called The Night Sun which opened at Cipriani Downtown Ibiza dinner theatre. He also just choreographed an original piece for the Las Vegas SYTYCD convention featuring dance, acrobatics and circus arts. Giulio has been working for the past 4 years for Cirque du Soleil as the Artistic Specialist and Advisor for all resident shows in USA and Asia. He also directed and Choreographed a short dance film (Liquid Sunshine) for a Cirque du Soleil charitable event organized for the One Drop Organization.
Currently he also coaches Cirque du Soleil and professional artists while creating new acts. Giulio is currently the Resident Choreographer and Artistic Coach for the "Shine Alternative Fitness" centre in Las Vegas. Giulio is also councilman for the F.I.D. (Italian dance Federation) and his choreographies have won various international awards ( 3 David of Michelangelo, 1 Golden Pegasus for artistic merit to name a few).
