Denise Garvey is in her 16th season with the New York Jets. Her new role as creative director comes after serving as director of the Jets Flight Crew program since its inception (2007). Garvey worked with the Jets to pilot the program and was responsible for managing all business and creative initiatives for the department. Denise was the spokesperson for the program and has been featured on numerous NYC media outlets, Jets on-air projects, and voiceovers.
As a lifelong creative, Denise was responsible for producing halftime shows and featured gameday performances involving the Jets Flight Crew at all home games. To produce a first-rate product, Garvey led all rehearsals and created the choreography and squad’s signature style. Garvey has represented the organization as a brand ambassador at large scale events including the 2018 NFL Kickoff in London. Additional responsibilities included recruitment of new members, image development, mentorship, costume design, public speaking engagements, squad appearances, and the creation and ideation of brand content on Jets Flight Crew media and social channels. Garvey has been involved in professional sports since 1998. She began her career with the National Basketball Association as a member of the New Jersey Nets Dance Team (renamed Brooklyn Nets).
Garvey then went on to pursue bigger success as a member of the world-renowned Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. During her employment in Dallas, she was selected to be a member of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Show Group. As one of 12 members selected, she traveled and performed worldwide representing the Dallas Cowboys, the USO (United States Overseas) and the NFL. She has performed all over the globe including a tour with former Secretary of Defense William Cohen, to visit and perform for service men and women overseas. She has performed in locations such as Japan, Germany, Korea, Kosovo, Bosnia, Croatia, and the Mediterranean. After a decision to move back to New York, Garvey worked professionally as a performer in New York City. During this time, Garvey spent four years dancing at the World’s Most Famous Arena, Madison Square Garden, where she was a member of the Knicks City Dancers (2001-2005).
A graduate of SUNY New Paltz, Garvey was the director of the Theatre Department at Hicksville Public Schools for five years. She ran the Hicksville Repertory Company where she produced three main stage shows each year and was responsible for managing all facets of the production including direction, choreography, costume design, light and sound production, stage managing and marketing. In February 2008, Garvey received her master’s degree from Queen’s College.
