International Student Visa Program (ISVP)

Our International Student Visa Program has been carefully designed to facilitate your training and development in a welcoming supportive environment. Featuring the largest variety of classes of any studio in NYC with an unparalleled faculty of industry professionals, ISVP accepts applications from dancers ages 18+ at all levels. Broadway Dance Center is authorized under federal law to enroll non-immigrant alien students to its International Student Visa Program.

Program Details

  • Choose a program of 3 months, 6 months, or 1 year of intensive study with the option to extend.
  • Design your own program and chart your progress with the help of our Student Advisor.
  • Choose 12 classes weekly from our drop-in schedule of over 350 classes.
    Classes are for students at levels Basic through Advanced in a multitude of styles. 
  • Monthly master classes exclusive to BDCTP & ISVP students provided to increase your knowledge and focus on your goals.
  • Develop relationships with your teachers through ongoing faculty mentoring.
  • Bimonthly Performance Project with free rehearsal space offered to those performing. 
  • Positive and nurturing full-time staff on hand to help guide your studies.
  • 7 state-of-the-art studios in the heart of the Broadway Theater District.
  • Faculty of over 90 world-renowned teachers and working choreographers offering cutting-edge to classical styles of instruction and choreography.

Your studies will amount to at least 18 mandatory hours of classes a week excluding rehearsals.


Applications may be submitted no sooner than 6 months prior to the start date requested.

Vacations WILL NOT be granted until you have been enrolled in the program for longer than 3 months. Vacations must be taken in 1-week increments.

How to Apply

BDC offers rolling admissions. You will be notified of acceptance within 7-10 business days after receipt of your completed application via email. You must have a valid email address.

Please read the following application instructions thoroughly and submit all application materials with care.

Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

  1. Completed ISVP Application Form
  2. Completed ISVP Health Form signed and stamped by your physician.
  3. Both forms are included in the same document HERE.
  4. Dance résumé detailing previous training and performance experience
  5. 2 or more professional or personal dance photos that best demonstrate your technical ability and strongest style
  6. 1-page typed short essay stating your dance goals and specifically how you plan to pursue them during your studies at BDC
  7. Current personal bank statement that shows sufficient funds to cover tuition and living expenses -OR- a letter of financial support and copy of supporter’s bank statement. Documents must be in English.
    1. $6,000 for 3 months
    2. $12,000 for 6 months
    3. $24,000 for 1 year
    4. These funds are required by the U.S. Government for non-working M-1 Visa applicants. This IS NOT tuition. You DO NOT pay this amount. You must SHOW that you have these funds in a bank statement.
  8. Copy of your valid passport
  9. $250 USD non-refundable application fee

We do not accept faxed applications.

After we receive your application:

  1. We will notify you of your acceptance by email, so please write your email address clearly on your application.
    Please DO NOT make your appointment at the embassy until you have been accepted into the program. You will need a SEVIS number that will not be available to you yet.
  2. Upon acceptance, a deposit of half tuition is due within 30 days to secure your spot.
  3. Once your deposit has been received, we will issue an acceptance packet containing your I-20 Certificate of Eligibility to apply for the M-1 Visa. The I-20 IS NOT the Visa.
  4. Make an appointment with the U.S. Embassy in your home country to apply for the M-1 Visa.
    PLEASE NOTE: You may only participate in the program if you enter the U.S. on BDC’s M-1 Visa. By law you may not participate in the program using a tourist visa.
  5. An additional fee of $200 USD payable to the U.S. Government Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) is required for all M-1 applicants before you travel to the U.S.
    This fee must be paid prior to obtaining the M-1 Visa. Payment instructions will be included in your I-20 Acceptance Packet.
  6. The remaining balance of your tuition is due 2 weeks before the start of classes.
  7. Students may arrive in the U.S. up to 30 days prior to the start of their program and remain in the U.S. for 30 days following the end date of their program. You should arrive in New York City at least 1 week before the start of your program in order to attend your initial meeting with the Education Department.

  • Includes all drop-in classes, seminars, master classes, performance opportunities, and counseling sessions 
  • Excludes application fees
  • If you choose to take additional classes beyond your mandatory 12 per week, you may do so at a reduced class rate. 

In order to succeed in the program, students must arrive with the necessary funds to support their living expenses during the semester. The M-1 Visa is a non-working visa, so students are not permitted to work during their studies. Please defer your application to the following semester if you need more time to amass these funds.


  • A wire transfer directly to Broadway Dance Center is the recommended payment method. Contact us for wire details.
  • When sending payment, make sure the name of student and subject of the transfer is on the receipt. Email transfer receipt to [email protected].
  • The student is responsible for all bank fees incurred.

Students whose application is refused by Immigration will receive a refund for all tuition paid, except application fees and some processing fees. These students must return the original I-20 and submit a copy of the letter from the U.S. Embassy or other proof stating reason for denial.

A student wishing to withdraw from the program early must notify Broadway Dance Center in writing. There are no refunds once you have begun the program, and no refunds will be given for any absences not made up during your period of study. Any approved withdrawals before the start of the program will incur a $150 administration fee.

There is a $100 administrative fee to extend your program. Tuition rates subject to change.

More Information

You must provide proof of your own traveler's medical insurance before starting the program. You do not need to include this proof of insurance in your application, but you must have valid insurance before starting the program.

BDC does not provide medical insurance, but we do recommend CareMed International Travel Insurance (

BDC is not responsible for injuries or illness incurred during your program, so it is imperative that as an international student you carry medical insurance before you begin and during your course of study with Broadway Dance Center.

Broadway Dance Center will consider applications from students currently in the U.S. on M-1 and F-1 Visas; however, the two circumstances and application processes are very different

Students wishing to transfer to Broadway Dance Center’s ISVP Professional Semester must arrange a meeting with program administrators.
