Class Descriptions

Contemporary

My contemporary class works to train not only the physical body but the mind as well. I seek to create a space where the dancers will feel seen and heard and free to explore and connect to themselves in a judgement free zone. As in all of my classes, we begin with an in depth warmup to connect to the body followed by a short mediation series to connect to the mind. We will go across the floor and work through a series of improvisational exercises to explore our individual way of moving. We then will move through a phrase of choreography; working to increase skills of picking up choreography while releasing any judgement we have of ourselves. I encourage the importance of presence in my class, while we strive to enjoy the process and not just the destination. I love dance, I love dancers, I love to create, so... let’s play!

Jazz

A jazz class for me, is a place for dancers to work on their technique as well as performance quality. As in all of my classes, we begin with an in depth warm up to train the large muscle groups of the body followed by a short meditation series to connect to the mind. We will move through an occasional across the floor sequence working to apply technical skills in a quick manner. Following, we will work through a phrase of choreography; striving to increase skills of picking up movement while deepening our understanding of lines, facility and performance. I encourage the importance of presence in my class, while we strive to enjoy the process and not just the destination. I love dance, I love dancers, I love to create, so... let’s play!

Jazz Funk

My street jazz/jazz funk class works to understand rhythm and physicalize the music to our best ability. In our time together, we will work to perform movement in a commercialized way. We will begin class with a short warmup to connect to the body followed by an occasional freestyle exercise to connect to our own source of creativity. We then will move through a phrase of choreography; working to increase skills of picking up movement while deepening our perception of dynamics and textures. I encourage the importance of presence in my class, while we strive to enjoy the process and not just the destination. I love dance, I love dancers, I love to create, so... let’s play!

Theater

My theater class works the skill of telling a story through our movement. I offer a zone where the dancers will feel recognized and understood and able to research and relate to themselves in a judgement free space. We begin class with an in depth warmup to connect to the body followed by a short mediation series to connect to the mind. We will go across the floor and work through a series of technical exercises to deepen our understanding of our facility. We then will move through a phrase of choreography; working to increase skills of picking up choreography while portraying a story in a clear manner. I encourage the importance of presence in my class, while we strive to enjoy the process and not just the destination. I love dance, I love dancers, I love to create, so... let’s play!
