Cara Leggio is a native New Yorker, dancer, choreographer, instructor and creative artist. Born and raised on Long Island, she grew up studying all genres of dance. Cara attended a performing arts high school and spent her summers attending the Joffrey Ballet School's various Summer Intensives, as well as other collegiate and international intensives. (A favorite being an Exchange Program with the Bolshoi Ballet Academy in Moscow, Russia.) She received a scholarship to attend The Joffrey Ballet School starting as a Ballet Trainee, then eventually joining the Jazz & Contemporary Program. She then continued her education graduating from The Institute for American Musical Theatre on scholarship in the Inaugural Class. During her time in both of these programs, Cara was performing and choreographing in renowned New York theaters such as Symphony Space (Lincoln Center), Alvin Ailey, Martha Graham, Dixon Place, etc. She also began performing in and choreographing touring productions of full professional musicals; including Hairspray, Grease, Mamma Mia, etc.
In the last few years some highlights include; performing in Sioux City Symphony's West Side Story, performing in Broadway Bares, choreographing and self-producing a full evening length Choreography Showcase of all original work at the incredible Martha Graham Theatre (an inspiring and fulfilling moment); participating in New York Dance Lab’s Inaugural Choreography Intensive, beginning her fitness career with Equinox (kickstarting Ballet by ABT is a standout) and choreographing concept videos, more touring productions, and teen productions of musicals such as Amelie, Legally Blonde, Bye Bye Birdie, Jesus Christ Superstar, and more.
At BDC, Cara enjoys spending her spare time assisting Deanna Doyle’s Ballet, Theater, and Tap classes. She is honored to be a part of BDC’s Children and Teens Program, helping young artists find their own passion for dance! Follow Cara on all socials @cara_leggs
