Katie Wilson Stewart is a New York City based dancer, singer, actor, and choreographer. Originally from Asheville, North Carolina, she received her Bachelor in Fine Arts from East Carolina University. She’s a proud graduate of the Broadway Dance Center Training Program and is currently represented by the fabulous Across the Board Talent Agency.
Most recently Katie had the pleasure of playing Anita in West Side Story at STONC. Previously she was honored to be a part of the national tour of Kathleen Marshall’s Anything Goes as Dance Captain/Swing. Some favorite regional credits include Chicago (Velma), Urinetown (Hope Cladwell), The Boy Friend (Masie), and Footloose (Urleen).
Katie is also a core company member and guest choreographer for ALMA NYC, a nonprofit, performance-based collective comprised of dancers, singers, actors, musicians, and visual artists. ALMA NYC is devoted to serving local and international philanthropic organizations while fostering its artists and creating community, and she has been fortunate enough to contribute to the organization’s growth since its inception in 2011 as a founding member.
Katie worked alongside Jim Cooney as Associate Choreographer for the Diamond Head Theater production of Singin In the Rain under the direction of Greg Zane. She’s also enjoyed working alongside ALMA NYC’s founder Zanza Steinberg as Associate and Dance Captain for their original work entitled HOMAGE that premiered this fall Symphony Space.
With a deep seeded passion for the history of dance in theater, Katie approaches teaching with an attention to the jazz foundations that have inspired the Broadway greats as well as an emphasis on the classic MGM movie musical “style.” Katie has taught Master Classes across the country in conjunction with Broadway Dance Center, Stage Door Connection, and Broadway Connection.
Katie continues to study with, assist, and perform for many of BDC’s esteemed faculty, including Richard J. Hinds, Sheila Barker, Greg Zane, Jim Cooney, Diana Laurenson, and more.
