Joey Pizzi is an award-winning choreographer with an extensive background working on both stage and screen. Most recently, he was choreographer for the new Disney feature film The Little Mermaid starring Halle Bailey and Mellisa McCartney. prior to this, Joey received both a Chita Rivera Award and World Choreography Award for his work as co-choreographer for Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns starring Emily Blunt, Meryl Streep and Lin-Manuel Miranda. previously, he choreographed the film burlesque starring Christine Aguilera and Cher earning him a Fred Astaire Award nomination for Outstanding Choreography.
Joey is extremely proud to have served as associate choreographer for some of the most iconic movie-musicals of the modern era. these include Oscar winning best picture Chicago (American Choreography Award), Dreamgirls (Choreography in Media Honor), Hairspray (Choreography in Media Honor), Into the Woods, and Nine to name a few.
On Broadway, Joey received critical acclaim as choreographer for the Tony Award winning show The Nance starring Nathan Lane. He has also been a part of the creation of 12 other Broadway shows including Damn Yankees, Follies, Minnelli on Minnelli, Little Me, and Catch Me If You Can. Joey has choreographed several shows Off-Broadway (La Mama, NYTW) and regionally (Papermill Playhouse, Old Globe Theatre, Dallas Theater Center), has received an Outer Critics Circle Award nomination and was associate choreographer for New York City Center’s “Encores!” productions of Wonderful Town and Hair.
Joey has choreographed the world famous Radio City Rockettes for their appearance on ABC-TV's Broadway Under the Stars and, recently, had the honor of choreographing for the dancers of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. On television, his work has been seen on Dancing with the Stars, X Factor, The Tony Awards, PBS Great Performances and Gossip Girl. He was also cited with outstanding choreography Emmy honors for his work on the Academy Awards and Annie. Additionally, Joey has contributed choreography or movement direction for music videos, commercials and photo shoots, recently collaborating with legendary photographer Annie Leibovitz.
Joey is an educator teaching master classes all over the world and has coached many top actors including: Catherine Zeta-Jones, Hugh Jackman, Beyonce, Julianne Hough, Nicole Kidman, Renee Zellweger, Jennifer Hudson, Richard Gere, Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem, Marianne Cotillard, Kate Hudson, Michelle Pfieffer, Christopher Walken, John Travolta, Daniel Day Lewis and Liza Minnelli.
