Ashley Stafford's love for the arts began at a very young age with the Indiana University pre-college ballet and music programs. She graduated with honors and received a Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance, as well as a minor in Psychology, from Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky. She has appeared on MTV, Good Morning America, Telemundo, and The Dr. Oz Show, and has performed in shows at Symphony Space, The Tank, Dixon Place, Broad Street Ballroom, the Barclay’s Center, and at the Highline Ballroom.
Ashley is trained in many genres of dance and has performed works by Sheila Barker, Mike Esperanza, Cat Cogliandro, Stacie Webster, J9, Ryan Daniel Beck, and Ashlé Dawson to name a few. Her own choreography has been showcased in shows such as the Brooklyn Dance Festival, in the New York Jazz Choreography Project, in the Sans Limites Festival, at the Holi Hai Festival on Governor’s Island, in the 2018 and 2020 NACHMO Select Theater Performances, and as a finalist in J Chen’s CORE Choreography Competition among other showcases and festivals. Ashley also creates short dance films that she choreographs, films, and edits, and has premiered her films in festivals in Colorado, Queens, and Brooklyn. Her short film myself won the award for Best Dance Short from the Astoria Film Festival, and in 2019 her short film ‘tides’ was included in a month-long art installation at the Plaxall Gallery.
Ashley believes that strength and conditioning are major components to enjoying lifelong movement and dance. As a Certified Personal Trainer and Youth Fitness Specialist through ACE Fitness, she is passionate about developing and strengthening the foundational movement skills necessary for each age to grow and thrive in activity. She also teaches children’s yoga with Yogi Beans. Ashley aims to fuse together her diverse training, musical knowledge, experiences, and passion for the arts and movement to create a learning environment in which young artists feel comfortable exploring dance while challenging their minds and bodies.
