Julia Kane is a dancer, teacher, and choreographer originally from Long Island, NY. She holds a BFA degree in dance, is a graduate of the Broadway Dance Center Professional Semester, and of Long Island High School for the Arts (under direction of Janice Aguilera and Shirlene Blake).
In 2017, Julia developed a project based company of varying artists, Julia Kane Dance Collective. The company debuted on stage at Jazz at Lincoln Center (in APAP’s Booking Dance Festival), and since then has performed across NYC in venues such as Dixon Place, Symphony Space, the Salvatore Capezio Theater, MMAC, as part of the JCE Jazz Dance Project, KLICK’t presents iDance4aCure Benefit, Peridance's APEX showcase, The Giving Tree, (Translate) Voices of Dance, among others. With the company, Julia strives to captivate audiences by seamlessly combining elements of technical jazz dance with contemporary movement. Her work has been reviewed as “Strong, dynamic, and beautiful,” while “imbuing a sense of strength through bold, cohesive movements.” Most recently, Julia choreographed and presented Cultivated Chaos, an evening length performance to benefit Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Both performances were sold out, raising over one thousand dollars for Dr Matthew Matasar’s Lymphoma Survivorship Program.
Julia has had the pleasure of working as Associate Choreographer to Zanza Steinberg for ALMA NYC's debut of YELLOW, and worked with the team again for FECUND: A Virtual Gala. As an educator, Julia has experience working with children as young as preschool age, as well as students of all ages with various physical and developmental disabilities. She has taught and choreographed for many studios in the surrounding NYC area, and for BDC's Children and Teens Program. Julia has had the honor of assisting Michelle Barber (including at BDC’s Dance Teacher Workshop), and Jamie Salmon. As a dancer, she has performed across NYC including at Hammerstein Ballroom during NY Fashion Week, in works by Ginger Cox, Michelle Barber, Jim Cooney, April Cook, and Zanza Steinberg.
